India became its own Republic in 1950 and created its own currency. This necklace is a blend of vintage 25 paise coins from 1950 to 1970s (known as Anna or pre-decimal coinage) The symbol on the coins is known as Ashok's Pillar which depicts 3 lions facing out while standing on a pillar. This represents peace and non-violence. At the centre of the drop is a large 1 rupee coin from 1981 and its wheat sheaf design symbolizes the new focus on progress and prosperity. The beads are of unknown original, possibly glass. The necklace is 27.5 cm long per side and the Rupee dangle adds another 9 cms. Weight: 125 grams
